Description

Tarnow Criminal Law is a criminal defence firm that defends clients in the Yukon’s courts, with more than five decades of combined criminal law experience. Impaired driving defence for Whitehorse and the Yukon

Both David Tarnow and Jason Tarnow have focused on driving offences for many years, including impaired driving, over 80 (over .08), refusal to provide a breath sample, dangerous driving, and driving causing bodily harm or death. Information is the key to a successful defence: we search police reports, witness testimony and other sources, and we challenge police procedure where we can. Was the stop lawful? Was the breathalyzer, approved screening device or field sobriety test administered properly and properly calibrated? We consider all of these questions when building your case.

Working with us from the Yukon

We offer the convenience of video conferencing for initial consultations, and all video consultations are confidential and protected by solicitor-client privilege. Facing criminal charges can be a challenging time; if you are charged, contact an experienced criminal lawyer promptly. We explain your rights under the law and give you consistent updates.

Charged with impaired driving in the Yukon? Key facts

From Yukon DUI Lawyers: in the Yukon, police can impose roadside sanctions under the Motor Vehicles Act as well as laying Criminal Code charges. A 90-day licence suspension applies for impaired driving, a reading of 80 mg or more, or refusing a breath or blood demand, and the vehicle is impounded for at least 30 days on a first occurrence — doubled if the reading was over 160 mg or the driver refused. Yukon licence holders receive a 14-day temporary permit before the suspension begins. A conviction brings a driving disqualification and the ignition interlock program.
